The tanks are thin and the elements can seize in place. So they distort when removing the old element. It's a risk.
The tank in my flat costs over £500 new. It's because it's design with the header tank built in. I can't remember what it's called.Happy chappy0 -

Make sure its not just the thermostate gone. Some one i Know has too have the thermostate replaced quite often. It cost £10 for the part, throw caution to the wind on this one get a second opnion.If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.0
