I have recieved a bill from e.on and wanted to clear something up if i look on the back and it says.....

*17768* estimated on 24 february
*17864* read by you on 1 march

is this still an estimated bill cos although one of my readings is being used the one before this has been estimated by them?

comments appreciated :)

    Hello devonrex

If this is the complete bill, for one week, then the start of the bill is estimated and the end of the bill is accurate. This means that overall, the bill is correct, but it might be less/more than you bargained for due to the starting estimate. Best way is to look at the bills when you get them like you are doing now, and if you see an estimate just have a quick look at the meter and make sure they're about the same. If in doubt, write down a meter reading and call your supplier, and they'll be most likely happy to accept an accurate reading from you :)

As long as you pho0ned in a meter reading when you moved in to your home, and EON used that reading (or you took a reading when you changed supplier to Eon and Eon used that reading) then overall the readings have been correct since you moved in.
If they used estimated readings when you moved in, on the other hand....

this bill is for a 3 month quartely period my last bill was back in december and i gave them readings back then.

but judging by the bill layout where it says

    *17768* estimated on 24th feb.

    and then directly after says

*17684* read by you on 1st march

im wondering? if from december to febuary they have actually just estimated my bill and then included one of my actual readings based on a 1 wk period only from 24 feb to 1st of march. can they do things like this? hope this makes some sense :)

Yes. If there is a price increase/decrease, for instance, an estimate will be made on the date of the increase/decrease unless an accurate reading is provided. It could be that they had originally estimated the bill ready to go out, but you provided a meter reading on the 1st March, and so they just ended the bill with your reading and sent it. Having an estimate in the middle won't make a difference to the bill if both sides are accurate.

    Hi devonrex

KJS and Matt have already given excellent advice. Thought I would just add one possibility.

Did you change tariff during the last quarter? If you did but didn't give us a meter reading at the time, then we will have ended the previous tariff to an estimate on the date of the change. Going forward, we will then bill on the new tariff.

As KJS says, as long as the opening/ending readings are accurate, we will have only charged for energy used during that period.

Hope this helps, devonrex. Give me a shout if you need any more info as happy to help. :)
