Time to wait between driving tests ?
Well, i have failed my practical driving test on 9th of march. Not a big deal, i'm a big boy and can deal with insignificant setbacks like this.
Problem is i can't find any concrete info (from official sources) about the time period i am REQUIRED BY LAW to wait between failing and re-taking the test. Its not that i'm impatient, but rather my missus is giving birth to our second child in ~two weeks and i'd like to retake my test asap.
Now, DVLNI/DVTA website doesnt have ANY info on the topic (me getting rusty at searches ? nah...).
DirectGov gives me 10 day period:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_4022540
Citizens advice bureau gives 3 for theory and 10 for practical:
http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/nireland/your_world/travel_northern_ireland/driving_tests.htm#re-taking_the_test
Now, i have incorrectly read some info which states that i need 3 days for practical test, so i thought i'd email DVLNI and ask. Reply is "2-3 days for your previous test results to get registered by their systems".
At this point i was curious on how true that is (3 different answers, really ?(remember i misread one of the articles, which i thought was three days, but it was for theory, not practical)).
So, i went to Cookstown test centre in person and asked staff. Answer - "if you think you are ready you can take the test now (assuming there are open slots for booking)....
Gah....
So, which is it ? "2-3 days", "3 days", "10 days" or "whenever you can get in the free slot" ?
By the way, failed on technicality, reverse bay parking. Fair enough. 7 minors and one serious after fully finished test.
Just want to retake my bloody test before the second baby drops, which will make taking the test so much more difficult, because my instructor is my wife
Carting one child is hard enough, but now a newborn messes things up completely on this front...
Any links to Northern Ireland LEGISLATION stating REQUIRED period ? Or is this whole "wait ten days" thing just a guideline ?
Cheers...

Sorry not got an answer for you but maybe you would like to re-post this on the NI board as someone there might know if there are any specific NI rules?

Try and book it online. Whatever the requirements are, that'll be the earliest date you can book.0

10 days before you can re-sit your practical test but you can re-book it the same day you failed. You just have to book it for at least 10 days in advance.0

So you say. Where's the legal support for that statement ? Link to a particular law that requires me to do that ?
And what if i rebook for the next day after i failed ? Apparently website lets me do that. What happens then ?0 -
Threedee, below is lifted straight from the direct gov website
If you fail...
If you fail the test the examiner will give you some feedback to help prepare yourself for your next test. Your driving report form will also show you where you made any mistakes. You can take another practical test 10 working days after your car or motorcycle test.0 -
Again, i'd like to see legislation stating that. Because at this point i have too many answers given to this question. Testing centre for one gave me "if you're ready you can retake your test now". After i explained that i failed 2 days before...
#UPDATE#
Well, i just called booking phone number (from dvtani website). Asked about all this 10 days thing and they dont have a clue what i'm on about. I mean, not a clue. As if i'm the first one to ask this...
So, why is directgov and citizens advice bureau dishing out misleading info ?
If i knew all this i'd have booked the test for NEXT DAY... Someone needs to address this on official level...0 -
Are we not mixing up what happens in NI and what happens here on the mainland?;)0
-
We do, and that is exactly the problem. One website says 10 days (directgov, cab), other (dvtani) says nothing at all, which makes me assume the former, which is, apparently, incorrect...0
-
Different rules apply to NI, so ignore the DirectGov stuff, that is for mainland UK only as far as Driving Tests are concerned.0

I wish i knew this when i failed my first test, whould have saved me some grief with thinking i now need to sit on my !!!! for nearly three weeks doing nothing (ok, ok, practicing
)
