Painting Bedrooms and hallway

I am looking to paint the walls and ceilings of my 2 bedrooms and hallway myself. I plan to strip the wallpaper/painted lining paper myself also.
My question is what paint should I use emulsion or gloss and which brand? Does it make any difference?

emulsion on walls/ceiling. Matt gives a dull finish and satin gives a slight shine.
Gloss on woodwork.0 -
what about brands? dont want anything too expensive though0

I go to crown trade stores. I'm sure the crown paint there is superior to the crown diy store version.0
