Will my solicitor charge me extra

Hi there,

Just about to complete the sale of my house. Unfortunately the sale has not been without complications which have included ;
  • Our solicitor chasing the buyers solicitor (buyer was not responding)
  • Us chasing our solicitor regarding the above
  • One of our neighbours being awkward and the solicitor having to write to the buyer to let them know
  • Me asking the solicitor whether or not I am entitled to pull out of the sale.
We signed a contract for a £600 all inc fee for conveyancing. Are they likely to charge more, and if so is it likely to run into the thousands?

Regards

  • My understanding is that they need to notify you before if they are going to increase your fee...that should have been in their 'terms and conditions' to you.

    That sounds fairly standard activity for a house sale! Should be part of their standard fee.

    hardly extra activity, but some TOBs will say they can charge for certain specified extras or they say nothing will be chaged extra without prior consultation.
    My posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:

    My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o
  • I agree.

    Nothing very unusual about the points you mention so I certainly wouldn't be thinking of charging extra for that kind of thing - but as TimmyT says you have to read the t and cs to see what they say about extra charges.

    As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.
