New Sockets/Lights in an Extension

Posts: 2 Newbie
Need wiring done in a 4m x 6m extension. The wiring needs to come from the existing fuseboard under the floor and out to the extension.
A new circuit breaker fuseboard will need to be installed for the extension wiring.
4 twin sockets are to be wired along with 2 ceiling lights.
Need test and certificate for building control.
I've been quoted £950 + VAT for this job. Sounds way OTT to me as I'd expect it done inside a day. Is it reasonable? I'm located just outside Edinburgh.

Just recently had my extension done and went down the route of labour only quotes as I had bought all the flat plate chrome sockets from toolstation. Seems much easier to gauge the true cost and avoids anyone adding extra to materials.
I had 5 double socets in the extension, 2 new doubles added to kitchen, 3 new switched wall uplighters in extension, old alarm disconnected, complete new insulated fuse box for whole house curcuits and an outside light added to extension - total labour with Part P certificate £310. I provided new fuse box and lights, he provided all cable and back boxes. I thought it was a great price. Took one guy, two full days.
Another sole trader quoted me £800, so god knows how some people price the job?0 -
As you are in Edinburgh then there is no Part P.
You should use a competent person for the work, links below
In Scotland:
Individuals registered;

Companies

In England and Wales:

I would expect the new consumer unit to be around £270-£350 and the sockets to be £35-£40 each.
I would assume the price should include certification
ps
Make sure you check the plans for any smoke detectors and kitchen / utility ventilation (Scottish building standards specify 60ltrs per second ventilation for kitchens)baldly going on...0
