My wifes ipod shuffle is now dead. Won't charge, wont link to itunes, nothing.
So she needs a new player. I have a ipod nano 3rd gen and she likes how it plays movies holds photo's etc and has been hinting for one, but the reality is money is tight and we cannot afford it.
However he birthday is coming up and I'm hoping I can get her something with the £40 I have saved.
Any suggestions on an alternative to the Ipod Nano 3rd/4th/5th gen?

you could try looking in second hand shops, i never personally look at the ipod nano's myself, but im sure you can pick up something of that ilk at CEX, cash generators or something like that, maybe try in the classified papers to see if anyones selling one cheap. as for alternatives i dont think you'll find much else, there are plenty of "mp4" players that look like ipods, but if you actually use them, they are far from perfect, or in theone case i had the unfortunate luck to happen across, they dont work at all
so just be careful with what looks like a good deal, it may be too good to be true.

i have no idea how much they go for, but the Sansa Clip gets good ratings0

cant really beat an ipod! i had a creative mp3 player for years and it was great but no docks or anything made for it apart from creatives own which were overpriced! plus if she's purchased things on itunes sometimes it can be a bit hard to move them songs over... although this was a few years ago and I think creative/apple may be a bit easier now?!0

there are methods to bypassing DRM but you'll have to search for them, but no, apple still arent any easier on freely transferring stuff to other devices
I currently have a 1gb ipod shuffle (the older square ones) with a busted clip, i got it for free from argos with gift vouchers.0 -
