Dysons 5 yr gaurantee ?

Had my dyson Dco7 animal for 1yr & 6 months keep up to date with washing filter out and generally look after it as iam not hash bash and iam the only person who uses it.

At first when i got it i thought it was great but now ( in fact for probably a while ) i thought it had lost suction, since it comes with a 5 yr guarantee i thought i would call them up and request somebody comes to look at it as i did nt think its performance was very good.
Whilst on the phone they put me through some instructions to check some things on the vacum and all seems well , apart from a little thin piece off rubber inside the foot plate which she says doesn't matter as they dont put those on now and wouldn't interfere with the performance .

she said she will send somebody out but told me that if the ''engineer'' ( not sure if thats the word she used ) could'nt find anything wrong with it then i will be charged £60 odd quid ! i said well i cant know whats wrong with it can i ? i said what sort off things she said if there is an obstruction , to which i replyed ' if there is an obstruction somewhere how can i find it because i cannot get into the machine.
she has made an appointment for somebody to call and now iam concerned that i will be charged !
its defanatly not picking up as good as it used to, i have to go over and over a small piece of say thread or fluff before it finally sucks it up
i dont know whether to cancel the appointment or not now for fear off being charged

Anybody else had to deal with this kind off thing ?

I have had my dyson for 7 years or so but I pay a monthy insurance on it which is just as well considering I have had to have the engineers out to fix it several times. Its mainly me using it loads and probably not looking after it paticuarly well but I must say the sevice from the engineers has been fabulous.
Last time I phoned I did get told that my insurance doesn't cover blockages but after having a look myself I couldn't find anything so went ahead with the appointment. I think it probably was blocked amongst other things but I wasnt charged and the engineer pretty much rebuilt the machine. I know its slightly different to OP's senario as yours is still in gaurantee but my experience of using the engineers has been great and every time they fixed the problem so that the loss of suction was sorted.

They normally just say that in case it does happen - if they didn't tell you, you'd be pretty annoyed when the engineer demanded payment before leaving!

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I've had dysons and my parents have had dysons, and it's quite easy to find a blockage on most models, due to all of the components that pop off so you can check for blockages.

They do have to let you know the possibility of a charge, though. They must waste so much time on people who complain the beater bar has stopped working, only for the engineer to get there, press the beater bar "on" button and TADAAAAA it's working again.
