Help on calculating gas and electric usage
Hi
I have recently moved into a house and now have standard gas and electric meters compared to having prepayment meters before and i am trying to work out how much i am using in gas and electric
When i moved in 2 weeks ago the meter readings were
Gas = 04660
Ele = 30606
Today they now stand at
Gas = 04760
Ele = 30682
My gas meter has the letters m3 on it and i know this has something to do with things.
Im on NPower Sign Online 17 tarrif and charged at
9.566p per kwh for electric
2.513p kwh for gas
How do i convert these figures into how many kwhs i have used? I can see i have used 100 for gas and 72 for electric but not sure of what
thanks
Kevin

Okay, so very very roughly for you, gas consumption is 100 units. As you have a metric meter, if you can't be bothered to do the full calculation (or use a web site like the above mentioned) a very quick way to roughly work out the units in kWh is to multiply the units by 11 as your meter is metric/m3/5 black digits, so 100 units = about 1100kWh. Your prices do not state either a tier 1 or a standing charge, but 1100 @ 2.513p (not taking into account the standing charge, anywhere between 25p-50p a day) = £27.43 + VAT (5%).
For electricity, 1 unit = 1 kWh so it's much easier. Again, without a standing charge, 76 kWh @ 9.556p = £7.26 + Standing Charge / Tier 1 + VAT0 -
thanks for the replies. i know know how to keep track0
