How to get smell out of handbag

Ok, I have done a search but nothing really to help me. I suppose this is a bit of a strange question.:D
Does anyone know how I can get the smell of bubble bath out of a handbag?
I managed to accidently leave my handbag hanging under a rubbish bag, had tipped the bubble bath away as I wanted the bottle and it dripped through
I don't have any bicarb and have very little time as need to take it with me tomorrow.
It was only on the outside but as I washed it off the lining got wet so it is hanging on the radiator drying now but the smell is very strong.

The first thing I would try would be to hang it outside on the washing line and hope it gets a good blow.
What on earth are you doing chucking out babble-bath? You could have used that for handwash in the kitchen0 -
Have you got any cream of tartar ..... It should work the same as Bicarb or some cat litter that absorbs smells tooBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

If you could smell it you would know why I was chucking it out! I don't even know where it came from, might have been a tombola prize.
Its raining so can't hang it out, have no cream of tartar or cat litter.
I hope I have managed to get all of it off the outside as have visions of it raining at the weekend and me walking down the road with bubbles trailing me :rotfl:whoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

I would try turning the bag inside out - at least bringing the lining out to the surface. Then you could`sponge` the linings and then blot with a towel. When the weather is better then you can hang it on the line to dry out.
Depending on the style of the bag, if you shower the linings getting rid of most of the soapy bits but at the same time protecting the body of the bag, you may get most of the soap out. The linings should hopefully dry overnight. What is the exterior of the bag made of?
Good luck0 -
I expect it's the heat from radiator making the smell so strong in the room and perhaps once it's dried out it might not be quite so pongy0

I didn't think of that, the rad making it smell more.
It seems to be dry now so have put it in the spare room, hoping that at 4 o/c tomorrow morning it doesn't smell so bad. I do have other bags but this is my favourite and it has pockets and I KNOW where everything is :rotfl:
It took me a whole day to find this bag when I went out looking for one, I am a bit fussy and after having had the nasty experience of someone taking my bank card out of my last one I have to have one that zips up and fits under my arm!
Thanks for all your suggestions - heres hoping its ok

if the bag is dry try packing it with kitchen roll or something absorbent you dont mind washing or chucking away such as an old towel. hopefully this will take up most of the smell. leave overnight and hope it works. tomorrow buy some bicarb and sprinkle it liberally inside the bag leave that overnight and brush out the next day.
hopefully as the bag dries out further the smell will decrease and by tomorrow will not be so noticeable!
just be glad it wasnt a really nasty pong - I had to put a disposable nappy in my bag once when minding the grandson - a really nasty smelly one and the nappy sack it was in split. yeuuuuchhhh. took days of the bicarb treatment for the smell to go!0 -
Oh no, it's a brand-new bag! I'd be crying. Anyhoo, if banishing it to the spare room overnight doesn't get it to mend its ways you could try giving it a wipe over with a baby-wipe in the morning. I'd still think about putting it outdoors for a good airing if you could.0

I've been doing some loft surfin', you know, when you think that the house will topple over due to the weight of the STUFF that's been stuffed in there over the last 24 years, so you decide that a bit of rationalisation is due.
Well, I dug out that handbag which my Mum bought me 14 years ago, just before she died. It's a lovely soft leather, dateless style, but at the time I couldn't bear to use it, so guess where it went!
Now I see it for what it is, a lovely soft leather bag in dateless style which reminds me of my dear Mum. But oh my word, it smells of that mustiness of lofts and attics everywhere, absolutely dry, so not mouldy.
So PLEASE does anyone know how to get rid of the smell?
I suppose I could drench it in Chanel 5, that might work, hardly practical 'tho'.
Help, help,, I would sooooo like to use this handbag again...........0 -
How about using a scented baby wipe to give it a good rub all over, and then using another wipe, or fabric softener sheet, and putting it inside the bag for a few days..? As it's real leather you'd have to do a patch test though I'd imagine, perhaps on the underside of the strap?..."Your life is what your thoughts make it"
