Could anyone design me a border ? Plant suggestions
I am hopeless with plants n shrubs etc and need some help. I have a border either side of my driveway which is about 4 ft wide and 20ft long.
I need to have some tall plants at the back and then tappering down so that all are seen, I'd like a colour scheme of blues, purples, pinks n whites and I'd like some roses in there together with some cottagy plants. Also colour for the spring / summer season.
I'd be grateful if anyone could recommend some plants.

If you look on J Parkers they sell packs of plants to do exactly what you want at a resonable price.

Sounds perfect for a Lavender Hedge to me. They look lovely and obviously smell nice too, especially if you grow it overhanging the path a bit so you brush past. Great for Bees and Butterflies too.
If you go for a smaller Lavender, like Munstead, it'll leave room for taller stuff behind it. I'd probably go for groups of Verbena Bonariensis, the Roses and a couple of Rosemarys along the back , then a mix of perennials/herbs (Chamomile, Hyssop, Feverfew, White and Red Valerian, Sedum Spectabile) and then a dwarf Lavender hedge kept well trimmed and compact.
Maybe leave a bit of room at the front for some bulbs (Crocus, bluebells, snowdrops etc) and annuals.
Everything I mention is blue/purple/Lavender/white/pink (use google images as a quick way to see what things look like). They will give you a nice, long flowering, wildlife friendly, low maintenance, fragrant and useful border.
Spring flowering bulbs will be the 1st to bloom. You could have Snowdrops, followed by Crocus, then Bluebells, then the Rosemarys, then most of the rest through summer, with the Sedums coming last, joining the Verbena and Valerian's that will flower from say June-October with no fuss or deadheading.
With those plants and/or other herbs and good nectar plants, it'd be a wildlife haven, especially for Butterflies. I'd put a few of the smaller, more elegant Buddleias in to finish the nectar bar off.0 -
Thankyou so much i'm going to look into this. I love the sound of the lavender as I prob wouldn't have thought of those.

I don't wish to seem thick but this come as a pack that pretty much goes straight into the ground or is it individual plants? I wouldprobably plant the wrong way round and end up with lupins at the front and asters at the back or some other disaster.
It does look pretty good though. I usually can't be bothered with flowers but this could change my mind if it is really easy.
I am fine with shrubs, trees and some veggies it is just flowers that I am rubbish with.If you look on J Parkers they sell packs of plants to do exactly what you want at a resonable price.0
