Atlantic Coast (Florida) Villas Help.

Hello,
I'm going to Florida at the end of April (April 29th-May 13th). My friends and I decided to go for a villa rather than hotels this time. We're looking somewhere on the Atlantic Coast. Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach, etc.
Does anyone know any ideas of where to look. We've seen Villas2000 and Holiday-Rentals.
We are slightly worried we'll get caught in a scam where they take out money and run though and have nowhere to stay when we get there. We're able to get a 4 bedroom villa (which is the minimum rooms we need) for £750 for the entire two weeks in Orlando, however we don't want to be that far away from where we're going.
The ones on the Atlantic Coast seem to be well over $2000 a week. There's no musts (pool isn't a must). Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

$2000 sounds about right - there is such a glut of villas in OrlandoWe're able to get a 4 bedroom villa (which is the minimum rooms we need) for £750 for the entire two weeks in Orlando, however we don't want to be that far away from where we're going.

that owners have to rent them out for little or no profit, but elsewhere
in Florida, accomodation is priced on a more commercial basis, I'm afraid...
Having said that, you would probably find something cheaper
futther south, such as Pompano Beach, Delray Beach, or even
Fort Lauderdale, as October is the low season in those areas.

When we booked a private villa (not through any agency) on Anna-Maria Island I e-mailed the local Chamber of Commerce (tourist info) and asked if the place existed and if they had any problems recorded against it. They confirmed it DID exist as a known rental -all worked out fine.
Edit after seeing Miss Edith's post: We did pay a small deposit, but the rest in cash on arrival.0 -
VRBO.com are good. Last November I booked a lovely 3 bed villa on the Gulf Coast for a week for $500. Spoke to the owners on the phone, they didn't ask for any deposit we just paid them cash when we were there.0
