Alliance and Leicester...have a heart. advise required pls!

Hello any help would be greatly appreciated.....

I am currently living in China where until recently Alliance and Leicester's online banking was blocked. However, on a whim i tried again recently and it worked, but I realised I was overdrawn in my savings account due to direct debts that had continued to come out and charges that had mounted as a result of being overdrawn (i was in credit in my savings account).

I put all my savings into my current account to give a positve balance and called their customer services team to explain my position (was not able to check my balance or transfer money due to their security policy in china blah blah). The told me that all charges will stand, and infact an additional 120 quid charge was heading my way relating to Feb/March fees.

I really hope the 'tough, pay us' view that they have is not how this concludes. How should I proceed from here, as I begrudge paying the the existing fees charged, let alone the ones im due to be landed with?!

Advise please, please, please

Normally savings accounts would have a term which prohibits Standing Orders and Direct Debits being made on the account which I cannot find. You need to see if you can cos that is an argument you may have.

thanks for the advise. Just to clarify, do you think its still an argument i can have if the money is coming out of the current account with the savings account remaining untouched?

You see i had money in the savings account, just a negative balance in the current (they have no sweeper system). So they would claim they treat the two as seperate i would imagine?

There is no argument on the current account if the money was in the savings account. If this is the first time and there is substantial money in the savings account then argue you would take your money elsewhere if they refused to refund the charges.
