New bathroom quote

Hi,

I'm having my bathroom gutted and then re-tiled with new suite. I've had a tiler/plumber recommended to me and this is the quote he has given:

Remove old tiles and suite (bath, sink, toilet)
Drill hole for extraction fan and fit the fan.
Re-tile the wall (25m2)
Fit new suite (bath, toilet, sink)
Fit fixtures and fittings (cabinet, mirror)
Replace old radiator with new
Plywood on floor (will be geting lino put in)
Ahesives, grout and trims.
Remove old lead pipe to sink.
Alter pipe work where required (bath and toilet are moving location slightly)

He won't be plastering the wall - will be putting up a moisture board to wall and then tiling onto that.

Quote does not include cost of fan, tiles, radiator & new bathroom suite - which i must supply.

And the quote is £2000 (West Yorkshire area).

Does that sound reasonable? He said it would take about a week.

Thanks!

can I just clarify - this is one week's work for one man?
So the quote is merely for his labour?

If so it seems steep to me.

Quoted for work by two man team.... one is the plumber and the other is the tiler.

Yes I think quote is pretty much for labour, he said he'd provide plywood, boards for a few floorboards that need replacing, the adhevsive stuff for the tiles, and any piping for replumbing that needs to be done.

Seems a little on the high side. I paid a few hundred less for very similar but fully plastered walls and ceiling and reboarded and UF Heating........ It took 1 man 10 days for us. Get a couple more quotes. Where are you based?

The local water company have quoted me £4800 labour for the same sort of work. They promised me it's guaranteed for 12 months...wooooo. For the price I think one of the blokes stays behind to turn the taps on when you need them each day and hands you a towel after your shower.

On the positive side I've now got some nice plans for my bathroom to go and source materials and labour elsewhere

We've just had a similar job done but without the extractor fan and new radiator, slightly less tiles (about 20m2) including floor. Our guy charged £900 and that included him supplying grout, adhesive and new piping etc but us supplying suite, taps and tiles - took 4 days. That's 12 miles north of Manchester so I would expect prices to be similar to yours, so to me seems a bit expensive.
He may have included cost of a skip in that price or cost of trade waste disposal, neither of which are cheap. If you've got half a day to knock the tiles off yourself and a vehicle you can take them and the old suite to the tip in - you can tip household waste for free.

Thanks for the feedback all, and for the similar quotes to compare against. That's given me something to think about :)

    Cheers

When I was looking round for quotes and had them broken down one of the most expensive things was tile removal. So I removed most of the tiles in my bathroom myself.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

yes for that price you should have two men stay behind lol.... That quote is so unreasonable.

Ive been working as a installers now for 6 years and its absolute cheeky how they can ask for the sums of money they do!!

But makes my job easier :)
