i want to install windows on a new pc (yes i have a separate licence)
the new pc only has dvd writer and a dvd rom
I have the bios bootup sequence to read from cd first, then floppy then hard disk.

the bios doesnt have a choice to change the cd to dvd

any ideas..... (apart from installing a cd rom.....)

have you tried it, it should work when set to cd.. (provided that the CD is bootable, if not have a look around https://www.bootdisk.com for a bootable floppy).
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

    I don't have a cd-rom drive either, only a combo dvd drive.
Setting my pc to boot from the cd drive in the bios works fine for me.

Have you tried the disks in both drives? Are the windows disks legit, or copies?

DVD Drives will read CD's, so as long as the BIOS is set to boot from CD you should have no problems.. Good Luck
