Tesco Pay at Pump - £1 charge only ?

I used a credit card at a Tesco pay at the pump for the first time and got the 'authorized for £99' message, and filled up with £35 of petrol.

When I check my statement the next day I can see a £1 charge for that time but nothing more - Does it usually take a while for the 'proper' charge to appear ? The credit card company said they can't see any pending charges which seems odd.

Aye but normally they take a charge of £99 then adjust accordingly.

So I'm slightly confused. OP just expect it to appear shortly though.

It's a while since I used pay at the pump, but the system then was that it would authorise £1 at the start of the transaction (to check for a valid card) and the full amount at the end. The £1 would remain as 'authorised' for a few days and then drop out of the system.

Maybe things have changed, maybe they had problems on your particular day that are being sorted out.

I doubt if you will get free petrol.

Depends on the type of account you have too!

I have a Natwest Step, and Tesco always pre-authorise anything I buy from them. It's a £2 pre-auth for online groceries, £2.01 for online top-up and £1 for fuel. So it appears immediatley on my online bank statements as these pre-auth amounts and not the actual amount I spent. It can take a few days for the actual amount to be processed but can take up to 4 days for the pre-authorised amounts to drop off my statements as those amounts are not being processed for collection by Tesco!

But it doesn't happen with my Co-Op account; just the amount I have spent appears on my statement in a few days.

I had exactly the same thing at at Tesco pay at pump lastnight (for the first time in 100s of times of using it). Charged £1 for £10 fuel. I understand you will get charged the rest later, but the only reason I noticed this was because I went to the bank this morning and couldn't take any money out so am now wondering what has happened. Waiting for my bank to get back to me. Probably completely unrelated but you never know.

It s a £1 charge to ensure the card is legit. It will all balance in a few days.
