Problem after exchange

I have exchanged on a property and and am due to complete on friday. the vendors solicitor had not sent my solicitor a completion statement so my solicitor chased it to fnd out what was going on.. only to find out that the vendor still has some money owed to the managing company for service charges.
If I go ahead and complete on Friday, who is responsible for the payment of the money still owed? is it me- as the new owner of the property or is it the vendor - as the owner of the property for the billing period in question?

do I have any grounds to hold back from completion if the debt is not cleared?

any advice??

Your vendor's solicitor should have obtained details from the managing agent and be paying them from the proceeds of the sale before they pass the balance to your vendor. We're freeholders and we get a pro-rata service charge payment from solicitors each time a flat sells. :)

Ask your solicitor to confirm that this will happen.
