I have contacted npower on quite a few occasions to check why I have been paying such allot on my electricity bill. They did send a guy out once who didn't have a clue as to why he was looking at my meter so took a reading and left.
On Wednesday I received a revised payment for direct debit amount of £207 per month.
I phoned up to tell them there is no way I can pay this bill so they took another meter reading and they spotted that my meter is faulty and hasn't been switching onto night rate, it was stuck and hasn't moved for quite some time.
I was told they would have to look into this but I have paid approx 30% over what it should have been.
I have had problems with this for quite sometime so I have been overpaying for at least 2 years.
Is there a limit to how far they can go back and right the amounts I've paid or will it only be this last bill?
Has anyone else been in this situation?

They will normally on rebill back to when you first informed them of the issue.
You say that all consumption has been recorded on the day rate and nothing on the night rate. Do you check your meter readings when you get a bill? If the bills have been based on actual readings have you not noticed that the night rate consumption has been zero?
If you have your old bills find ever bill that has actual reading as this may allow you to determne during which period the switching stopped. You can then ask them to rebill from then.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Change from Npower to another company, they keep coming bottom of Which? surveys every year. Terrible company.0

Wait til you get the issue 'resolved' first before switching, else it may never be resolved.0

The energy company has provide you with info -before they can raise your D/D - Go to OFGEM site to find out , Easy way is to put your gas and electric readings into a switch site , To find out a rough estimate of what you can afford, In my my case Npower wanted £2134 a year by upping the the D/D- But on the switch site a quote of £1010 was given for my dual fuel bill by the same company - Because they were not listening , I switched and expect to pay approx £ 850 for the year ,along with a discount for an online account this given every month .0
