Options
first off excuse bad typing as have baby on lap....

ive been in today and heard something come through the letterbox. when i retrieved it it was a 'calling card' from tnt mobiles that says 'sorry we missed you we have your FREE mobile phone'

on the bit where it says time and date of call its blank all it says is to call 08454862428 or 08002343663 and ask for anna.

am i right in thinking this isnt free as they want me to sign up for a contract? it states terms and conditions apply but there arent any.

I'd be wary of it - sounds like a marketing ploy. Get you on the phone and try and sell you something.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

Yes, it's probably a scam. If you're really curious you can phone the freephone number, but dont give them any information they don't already have, and don't sign up for anything

what i really want to do is claim my FREE PHONE. does anyone know of any legislation i could use to get what they state out of them without paying or signing for a contract? afterall they should really list their terms and conditions shouldnt they!

FREE PHONE = free phone to me.

To me it sound exactly like one of those scams where you are made to phone a special line and they make you wait till you grow a beard, thus getting your money without you even noticing (until the phone bill arrives).
You said you were home and heard the paper come in? They haven't even bothered to call. They never meant to. They want you to phone. If you try the free number they'll probably remit you to the other one with some lame excuse. Don't even think they have a phone for you; that's only the bait.

It's from a firm called TNT Telecoms.

As always, there's no such thing as a free lunch and, as the leaflet was obviously delivered by a leaflet stuffer and not a cold caller, you may been lucky.

The music's quite nice on the 0800 number if you press 1 - but then some salesman answers and spoils it.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

That site looks just like one of the white goods mobile sites kicking around. I woudl also be warey of this.
  • I wouldnt call it a 'scam', surely its just a marketing ploy. Its as much a 'scam' as EasyJet claiming free flights and then you have to pay tax+expenses or TalkTalk claiming free broadband but only if you sign up to other stuff. I think you are being unfair. Unless of course it turns out they just nick all ya money and give you nothing - thats a scam.

does anyone know of any legislation i could use to get what they state out of them without paying or signing for a contract?

I don't know any legislation but I'm pretty sure their terms and conditions will be available on request, so ask them to send you a written copy.
afterall they should really list their terms and conditions shouldnt they!

Not if they are 30 pages long and you got a postcard.
I'm afraid it might not be practical to list it all.
FREE PHONE = free phone to me

And I'm positive there is one, but it won't necessarily have the cheapest line rental or calls.

Afterall I will personally guarantee you a free phone subject to the condition that you pay off my £200K mortgage first.

I agree with Dead_Eye_Jones, it's a legal marketing ploy and not an illegal scam.

I would guess (like others) that it won't be worth it as there are probably uncompetitive conditions attached.

OK, D.E.Jones, I see your point and you're right.
I must be too tired of being a target for salespeople.
