car insurance for 17 year old

hi im jamie, im 17 years old and looking to be taking my driving test in the next couple of weeks so i am looking at insurance qoutes, i know that insurance on provisonal is a lot cheaper and i was told by a friend if i where to get insurance on provisonal and then passed my test then i could remain on the same policy for the remainder of the year. i am wondering if this is legal? i have also looked at quotes for myself on a full uk licence on a fiat punto 1.2 51 plate and i have looked on the price comparison sites and some individually such as adrian flux and the best that i have found is £2800, i feel this is realy steep compared to some of the other posts on here and wondered if anyone can help. thanks :)

not even slightly legal, and i doubt you want a conviction for no insurance when you've only just passed.

You'll just have to keep looking. There are lots of tips in the thousands of other threads about insurance for 17 year old drivers. ;)
