Council housing in Newcastle?

I'm wondering if anybody has had experience of dealing with this? Has any idea of waiting times or even how to find out what the waiting times are?

Have you spoken to the council? A lot of concils now do choice based lettings & any available properties are advertised for people to apply for once they are on the register. If this is the schem running all properties let are usually then updated with the banding & length of time the succesful applicant has been registered for.
Lots of info on their website

Yes, I am registered with them. I was wondering if there was anyway to find out roughly how long people generally wait to get a place? They themselves are not exactly forth coming with information!

You can look at the previous allocations which shows how many bids, how long a person has been registered, how many were let to priority applicants, etc. An 'average' isn't going to tell you that much anyhow since it will mix low with high priority applicants - some people are never going to get housing allocated, they will get leapfrogged - its better for you to analyse the type of property you might bid for and the type of band you fall within to get a closer idea of the level of demand and the frequency with which vacant properties come up for bid.

Download and analyse the historic allocation results via the Feedback results under the 'How we perform' section.
