Urgent advice needed!!

Hi all

i wonder if anyone can help me. Last april i opened a halifax bank account and they gave me a £250 overdraft, i had the account for about a week and then i was made redundant, i went overdrawn by £70 but i paid within 48 hours. Then in may to my shock i was charged £75 and then in june £5, july £75 aug £5 and this goes on but in november they charged me £195, they seem to charge me what they like, i know i should contact them but as silly as this sounds they frighten me! Has anyone experienced anything like this because i can't afford to keep paying.

Thanks in advance

Does the statment give any more details - as £75 seems extorionate for an authorised overdraft.

As far as I know halifax overdraft charges were just an interest charge prior to the recent changes

Tehy ahve now changed that you pay £1 for every day overdrawn, £2 if its over a certain amount (£2,500?), and additioanl fees for unauthorised overdraft?

I haven't experienced anything like that but I would have phoned them up as soon as the first £75 was charged. I would certainly overcome any nervousness if it might save me £195!

Are you sure you've only been overdrawn for two days in all that time?

You need to find out from them what the charges are for.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

...Did you have any direct debits with the bank, and if so if they tried to take money but you had none, you pay a penalty for each and everytime no money is there for the DD.

eg. if you had gone over your limit and 3 direct debits were due, you could be charged £35 three times.
