I have seen several postings on good places to go with children but some of us are now empty nesters and have time to spare. We like to have a day or half day out from time to time. We took cycles to Swansea and cycled along the cycle path to mumbles. That was lovely
Dyffryn gardens. Been three times now
St fagans. Pick your day because it can be heaving with coach loads of school parties. Lovely place
Cycle ride from Usk to Raglan and back to Usk for tea
Help me out please. Suggestions for car trips welcome. There are dozens of places but I never know where to go when DH says `what shall we do today`
I`ll put any suggestions into a notebook so I have a selection of places at hand

what sort of things are you into and where about in wales are you based?
OH and i really enjoy walking; brecon is only a short drive from cardiff. we spend a few hours wandering the beacons then head into the town for a coffee.
loads of walks in and around the area i can give you details on if that is your thing.
we are aiming to make our way around the heritage sites - picnic at cardiff castle and a tour around (havent been in there since i was a kid), big pit, caerleon, caerphilly castle, national museum and all the rest
why not head to your local tourist info place? they are a mine of info, and are just as happy to help a local as they are to help the visitors. also keep your eyes peeled for an echo publication called '101 days out in wales' (or something along those lines). it is broken down by region, and lists loads of different things to do in the area. im welsh born and bred, yet am having a whale of a time working through the book and ticking off things that i have done
think the next thing on my list will be a trip to margam park or the aberdulais falls :think:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Cardiff Bay usually hosts plenty of events from time to time - try the what's on section from Cardiff Council website https://www.cardiff.gov.ukGwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

Quite a lot of the stuff I do with the kids is also pretty good to do as an adult I think. We went to the museum for the family fun day last weekend but I've promised myself that I'm going to go back there when I get a spare day on my own. It's excellent.
Our favourite day out at the moment involves getting a train to the bay and walking across the barrage. We stop for a play at the playground and have a look at the boats going through the locks. Then we have lunch at El Puerto (and a beer for me!) before either walking back or jumping on the water bus. As you can take bikes on the train we sometimes cycle it. I think that's a pretty good adult day out too, with the advantage that you can drink more beer. And if El Puerto is a bit too pricey just take a few sarnies and a pork pie.
Yep, museum if it's raining and barrage if it's sunny.
I went on the open top bus tour of cardiff with the kids last week too. It was quite good fun but I did question why I had paid 16 quid to get a bus around a city that I've lived and worked in for forty years.0 -
Personally I love Margam Country Park, great walks in the grounds, various cycle path options, small animal farm, wildlife galore, train rides and usually a few other events going on as well.

Also Pembrey Country Park is lovely for walking/cycling in.
The Gower has many many beautiful beaches to walk on,and coastal paths to walk round (or cycle). My favs include Pennard, 3 Cliffs and Rhosilli.
In swansea itself you have the Waterfront Museum, and Glyn Vivian Art Gallery. Clyne Gardens in Blackpill are beautiful year round too.
You can get "What's On Guide" which has things to do in Swansea from libraries or some shops.
