RetailEyes questions

Options
Hi All,
I'm signed up to RetailEyes MS, and I haven't yet taken an assignment, because I have some questions, so I'm hoping one or two lovely peeps here will answer them so I can start taking jobs!

1. What's the difference between fee and reimbursement? I assume that the reimbursement is paying you back for what you had to spend to do the MS? It's not clear, as some jobs have no fee at all!

2. If reimbursement is what I think it is, is the amount a limit, or a set amount, of which you can spend some or all? I.e. If the reimbursement is £20, and you can spend £15 on the correct things (as specified in the Assignment Notes), can you then pocket £5, or do they reimburse exactly?

3. Do those who do RE assignments think they pay well? I think Grassroots are better, as it's a fee, not a 'spend some money and we'll give it back to you, and here's £2 for your trouble' affair. Most of the places advertised I wouldn't normally go to, so I'd want more than a token £2 - wouldn't even cover bus fare!

Any advice/answers would be much appreciated, ta.
xx

Only bother with RE if you want to reduce your tax bill as most jobs will leave you out of pocket, what with 40p a mile for petrol being an acceptable claim.
There proofreaders don't seem very competant either so you will forever have to do battle with them to get paid. Plus the new improved website is utterly useless.

    Hi jojo

Thanks for your post - have just been thinking the very same things! I've never done one either through them. Just got a website purchase one that I might do - then I saw they don't reimburse delivery fee (but there is no other way to get the purchase) so don't know if I'll bother with that either. Boo.

Hi, you would be better posting this on the MS thread to get a range of answers.. but i'll do my best..

The fee is exactly that, what you get paid, the reimbursement is the max they will pay, if you spend less you get less with this particular co. The most important part of MS'ing is never to mention the fees/ reimbursements or clients as that is part of the confidentiality agreement you sign upto when you join the Company. As for different fees/reimbursements, well some offer better places for assignments with no fee but a reimbursement ie: meals at nice places, and some expect you to answer 140 questions for very little fee at all.. its all about signing up and trying them out. If your not making money/or getting a treat out of it, its probably not worth your while... its all down to the individual whether they want to do it or not, many people do the lower paid jobs to gain experience or to reduce tax payment.... pop over to the MS board if you want more info, but don't mention client names, or monies.. and read the op's first posts.. before asking questions...!!!!!

Many a MSE has been chewed up and spat out for less...!!!

It seems with RE you get the benefit IF you were going to be visiting that place anyway! Like tomorrow I'm in town and there's a pub job so I will go and have a free lunch - fortunately there is a fee but if there wasn't it's still a free lunch IYSWIM.
Today there were pet jobs - no use to me as I don't have a pet, might e of use to you if you do and you need to purchase dog food for example.

I only do jobs that are local to me (or within a 5-10 mile radius). Its not worth it otherwise. I'm a stay at home mum so its ideal for me. I can do assignments inbetween school/nursery runs. It keeps me busy and sane whilst also adding up money in my pennyless account.

Fortunately for me RetailEyes have a lot of jobs in my local town. I can cheat on parking and park in the local Tescos as more often than not I want bread or milk as well.

You do have to read each assignment carefully though. Sometimes you do have to purchase something and will be re-imbursed fully or partly to cover the cost. Sometimes there is a fee attached too. If the reimbursement is £5 and you spend £3 then you will only get £3 back.

I work at this full time all over England so sometimesd if I am away from home I get a free hotel and a meal i ususally get free meals during the day while working, but if I had to live on what I made from them I would end up packing it in, the way I see it is I work for most of the Msing companies and work most days 8 to 10 hours a day and it pays the bills, some give me free fuel others give me free food and some give me money.

Not quite true (given that I've seen the Proofreader notes and the shopper notes for their pasta restaurant), as in true RE style what they tell the shopper's to comment on is different to what the proofreaders are told (ie shopper comment on 1 main course in the party, proofreader told shopper should comment on all main courses>)
  • Hi

Just joined Retail Eyes and I've got a question about reimbursement.

If the Reimbursement is £20 and you only have to go to e.g a pub and order a pint of lager, if you buy 3 pints of lager, will they reimburse you for all the drinks you buy or just the one pint. If the reimbursement is £20 I am assuming they will pay for all your drinks that night upto a maximum of £20, not just the one that you have to buy to complete the assignment.

    Thanks in advance.
