Cashback if council fails you.

Options
I heard a couple of years back the government was looking at bringing in legislation to allow homeowners cash back for key services not delivered by the council.

Is this the case? This was on the back of for example councils imposing fines for refuse left on on the wrong day or put out to early. There was suppose to be something put in place to address the balance.

As a tax payer, I pay for a service. If that service is not been delivered, and after giving them the opportunity to rectify the issue the service has still not been delivered, can I obtain cash back under this legislation..if it exists....

Thanks.

I'm sure I read in the last few months that this had been quietly dropped ? Can't find it on a quick search, might be looking in wrong place tho...

Yes, I see lots of talk about it with various searches with it going quiet early 2009, and nothing on the governments gateway about it.

Council polices seem to only work in one direction and if they break their own polices...then tough, so it seems!

If only it was fair eh? I live down an unmanned/unadopted road and the council want nothing to do with it. They won't let us make it private because of 'access' to an adjacent field (which I can understand) but the best part is they're landowners because this field covers about 50% of one side of the street. Do they take any responsibility?
To get it tarmacced would cost £250pm (probably £20,000 to get the whole thing done)...would they pay 25% for this? "You'd have to enquire and...yadda yadda yadda".

Long and short of it, if we paid for it to be tarmacced they'd probably then adopt it.

Still, our bins are collected once a week and our council workers are usually helpful (arranged a home collection a few weeks ago and couldn't get the washing machine around the front due to an emergency, they took it from my back garden even though they weren't supposed to which is always a nice touch).
