You can always buy airside, most UK airports have a Boots or like, and a shop for milk/juice. So you can take through empty containers and buy once through security.

    Indeed.

Just for fun, maybe we should point out that a bottle of water bought in Boots airside, and a bottle of water bought in any other Boots are perfectly identical.

You'd expect airside Boots (or any other airside shop), perhaps has it's deliveries strictly monitored and scanned through x-ray, but that isn't the case. Ironic really.

Only problem is, not all UK airport follow the same rules.

Well they should, the dft sets the rules not guidelines, you may find that its the security bods interpretation of the rules.

If you are'nt sure and you think you're right then ask to see their rules and then their supervisor.

Having to face these people on an almost daily basis some of their decisions beggar belief, my big thing is I can walk airside with guns/knives etc etc but not a bottle of pop

Can you take medicines in the form of tablets in your hand luggage?

Depending on where you are going it may be a good idea to take a copy of your prescription, in any case you should definitely take them in the original outer packaging.

not to piggyback on this thread, and I think I know the answer, but I appreciate phatbear's first-hand advice.

Daily disposable contacts - individually sealed with (far less than 100ml) solution in each. I assume these are perfectly fine to be taken in hand luggage provided that they fit in my plastic bag? My first flight after switching from hard contacts is coming up, so just for some peace of mind I thought I would ask. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Yup contacts are fine, on over nighters I usually take replacement lenses to save having to bother taking peroxide and saline with me, just chuck em in your clear bag to keep security happy

Excellent - thanks! I'd always carried my hard contacts in solution with me before in my clear bag, but as I'll have probably 10 pairs with me this time since being daily I'll need a lot more, I wasn't sure if that might cause any issue due to the number of them. Appreciate the reassurance!

    Where are you flying from?

I go from Luton and they are quite strict...send you back to check in if you have more than one item per person hand luggage...a handbag counts as one item

Great, thanks. Does the bag need to be totally see through? My freezer bags are big enough but have those white panels on for you to write on!

Do you know whether I can take medicines in the form of tablets in my hand luggage? Mind you, I will have to whether I'm allowed or not!

    Hi,
I usually only take hand luggage for myself ,dear son & nephew & both my nephew & I have prescription medicines. I pack both of our medicines in separate see through plastic bags (even although its tablets I'm on) & I fill for each of us the see through bag that we're allowed with toiletries.
When questioned @ Stansted last year I just pointed out which was my medication & which bag was my nephews. (as they thought i had 2 bags of meds for myself)
No problems @ the Spanish end, they glanced @ them & that was it.

They did that @ Dublin airport last year & most people had sneaked through carrier bags. When due to board Ryanair rep came round & everybody had to try & squeeze all their stuff into the 1 piece of hand luggage.
Have seen this also happen @ Stansted & Prestwick airports.
