Argh buying train tickets is a nightmare

So I've read the guide and researched the best ticket. Used Trainline, it said the best one would be £53.30, so I didn't want to book with them as they charge a fee, so I went to national rail, they confirmed this ticket choice and said to book via east midlands trains, but when I go on their website the same ticket is going to cost £217.20 :mad::mad::mad::mad:

What am I doing wrong???

Should I just swallow the £1 booking fee with trainline and pay by debit card instead of credit card or can I get this ticket via east midlands trains???

This whole thing reminds me why I normally drive.......

Any advice?

Just drive :) It's the same reason why I drive rather than riding the trains. Cheaper, more convenient and more comfortable.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

To be honest I can't really for this thing because of parking, and possible morning over hangovers - it is for a hen do!

Right I've booked with them, it was £1 more but no booking fee and no credit card fee - so the same as going through trainline with a debit card but I got my cashback on my cashback credit card!

    Thanks

    Such a minefield though....

On the East Coast website there are options on the left hand side for 'show all trains' or 'show slower trains', etc. Try selecting some of these to come up with the right ticket. A ticket on the trainline should be available everywhere else... .

How many of you are travelling? I'd guess 4 of you. That £53 odd is for one, the £217.20 is for all 4???

Only a guess though....... Can't think of any other reason why it might be so though.

    No just for one person!

I entered the exact same info each time. Trainline and National Rail gave a price of £53.30, East Coast Trains gave £54.30 and East Midland Trains gave £217.20 - bonkers!
