I've had one now for 5 years after being nagged into it by my daughter who is a doctor. She told me all the obs and gynae doctors she worked with had them fitted, so I had one rather than a hysterectomy. I would recommend one, it changes your life.

Nice to see lots of positive stories here.
I have mine fitted 6 wks ago, the dr put used some local anaesethetic gel and that really helped. I had cramping a day or two after, nothing serious and spotting for a week. First period was much much lighter but longer. Can't wait for them to disappear! I'd highly recommend it and wish I'd done it years ago.
    Best of luck!

Just as a note, i had periods throughout but mine is none hormone, not sure if that makes a difference

So its not the mirena you had fitted then as the mirena is the coil that comes loaded with the hormones

I had mine fitted last month. Was fine. Only very mildly uncomfortable and actually not a big deal in the slightest!

Can't comment any further as I am waiting to see it's effect on my very heavy periods eek!!!

Other than my terrible skin (only an issue if you are prone to acne) I'm happy with not having periods and I don't seem to have had any problems. I was being very cautious and asked the nurse to check it was there during my follow up check and she said she didn't know as they had cut my strings too short to feel, so you might not be able to check them yourself anyway.

I had one fitted about 18 months ago, only had it in for approx 8 weeks as it really wasn't for me. I had terrible pain in a lot of my body esp my legs and upper thighs and stomach. the worst part was the depression for me :( in the end i said if you don't take it out i will. Iv'e suffered with depression for most of my life but the coil really pushed me over the edge.
