ive searched and seen many threads on the coil but im wondering if there are any sucess stories out there as most seem to be bad experiences.
im due to have 1 fitted tomorrow morning ( if i dont chicken out) and im quite scared about it, i want to be able to carry on as normal after it being fitted, 2 kids to run around after and a birthday party tomorrow evening, driving etc.
thanks

Yes, I had it fitted for 9 years, without any problem whatsoever and if I remember, just carried on as normal after it being fitted.
Periods minimal, no trouble, no worries, no discomfort, no side-effects whatsoever, wouldn't know it was there the whole time. Had it easily and painlessly removed (due to my age now!) a few months ago.
Suited me perfectly. There are some horror stories on threads on this forum, but everyone's different.
Hope it's the same for you!0 -
I've had mine in for a couple of years now and had no problems at all.
It went in easily, minor cramping and spotting for a few days, and my periods stopped a few months later........bliss!
I've had normal coils before and whilst they were fine going in and out again, they made my periods sooo heavy. Mirena is fab in my book!0 -
I agree - Mirena fab! This is my second, fitted a year ago. Fitting this time was not pleasant, but straight away afterwards I was back to normal. Periods take 6 months to disappear completely, but well worth the wait!!!!
Go for it!!

I Had mine fitted 5 years ago and it has been perfect right up until this month when i went to the dr to get it changed and discovered it was missing.
Now i had NOT checked after my last period as i was going to see DR (im a bit daft sometimes) but every other month it has been there and i have not had any issues at all!
When i find out where it has gone (assuming fallen out but have a scan to check next week) i WILL be having another one!

Just as a note, i had periods throughout but mine is none hormone, not sure if that makes a difference0 -
I'm on my second one now (original fitted in 2002, second one in 2007) and can honestly say it changed my life.
Have had no problems with it whatsoever and after the first 6 months haven't had any periods which is fab after the problems I had in the past.
I haven't had any children so I don't know if that makes any difference to how well it's worked for me, but based on my experience would highly recommend.0 -
It can hurt a little bit when it goes in so take 2 paracetomol beforehand. I went to work after quite happily Re party at night you body can try and get rid of it it thinks it is a foreign body -you can get quite sore cramps on the first night -like early labour or after pains. Have some strong period type pain killers to hand and don't party too long! It should die down by the next day but you might not have any pain at all.0

It does make a difference. It's the hormones that make the periods stop.
I have to say I've never checked any of my coils (this is my 4th):eek:.0 -
I didn't ever check mine either, don't remember being told to and had a mild panic when read on here recently about people checking them every month:eek:
When I went to the doctor to have it removed, I guiltily mentioned it to her, but she said there was no need to check it (and it was still in situ, ready to be taken out!) OP, maybe clarify this with your GP.0 -
I had my coil fitted 5 years ago and just had it changed in jan i was scared stiff, it was a horrible experiance for me to get it removed and changed but i'm a big sissy when it comes to things like that. The coil did give me some cramps after and some spotting but i carried on as usual, took some Ibuprofen which helps and a hot water bottle. I found with the coil that you could just forget about it and carry on with life as normal without thinking when i have to take the next pill or injection, i never checked mine and it was fine so wish you luck for your fitting definately take 2 nurofen an hour before fitting!!! and your partner if possible i took mine and it helped me.:happylove0
