My sound has disappeared.

The sound on my laptop has virtually disappeared. The volume icon on my taskbar is on maximum and I've checked everything via Control Panel.
No jingle when I open up, no ping for an incoming e-mail, won't play music CDs, won't play the sound on e-mail attachments - but it will play the sound on film DVDs. Seems very odd that but there must be a simple explanation I bet? It was working OK yesterday and I've only updated Real Player since. Could it be that, I wonder?
Help needed please - any ideas?

Have you tried double-clicking the speaker icon on your taskbar so you can get access to all the system volume levels?0

Muchas gracias Garcia!
Did it & it worked (my Spanish is very limited!). There were four sliders on the display and two were at the bottom - I moved them up to the middle. No real idea what I was doing but hey! it worked.

Mine vanished a while back (had a thread in here funnily enough) and I still don't know how to solve it, a good pal of mine who knows his stuff looged on to my pc via remote assistance and he also hit a brick wall.
Are there any programmes I can run that might give me a clue what the problem is ?0 -

I'm making a note of what Senor Garcia told me - for future reference, should it ever happen again. Suggest you do the same! I've given up trying to understand the whys of computer behaviour. I find it's enough to know the possible solution(s).
