Rail journey from amsterdam to brussels

Planning a short break to amsterdam in august. would like to travel by train to brussels for an overnight stay in belgium.
Is it worth booking the train journey in advance (can it be done online at all?) or are the ticket prices almost the same if taken on the day?
Any suggestions guys? also any useful websites?
Cheers

If you get a weekend return on the Intercity, you should be looking to pay around 30 to 40 Euro for a 2nd class return ticket. I think they are flexible so you can travel down and travel back at any time during the weekend period (think it's from Fridays after midday, through to Sunday night). There is also 1st class Intercity available.

There is also another option called the Thalys (pronounced "taleese" in Holland), which are very modern, high speed and very comfortable. They cost around 60 or 70 Euro return I think. But sometimes they have very good special offers or last minute deals which work out cheaper.

You can book tickets at the national Dutch train website: https://www.ns.nl (English version available)

If you search on the web for seat 61 there is an excellent site with information about train travel - this might offer you some suggestions too?
