Are you always this cautious? If your machine is fully protected, why not just try it?

Great Thanks Garcia - am correct in thinking that should i use a 'new' font on a webpage and the recpient doesn't have it on their machine it will auto default to a 'standard' font? eg times or similar?

espresso - ha yes i am unfort! - paranoid about getting very very annoying pop-ups and slow running comp and constant crashing I had last time I had a virus!!

whats the score with downloads - if i unwittingly start to downlaod something with spyware/virus etc - should my AV notify me before it finishes if there is a problem?

You can scan any file that you have downloaded before use by using your anti-virus program (usually by right clicking on the file while viewing with Explorer.

    From http://www.dafont.com

    How to install a font
Windows : Copy the .ttf, .otf, .fon files into C:\Windows\Fonts.
Mac OS X : Put the files (Mac or PC) into /Library/Fonts.

Go into Start->control panel. Then choose fonts. That will open up your font directory. Copy over the unzipped fonts into the directory using drag and drop. Thats all you have to do. Fonts are installed!

There should be a brief dialogue box with a bar showing you that the font is being installed (it only stays on screen for a second or so).

    Huggins,
Do you mean how can you get a font displayed on a webpage if the user doesn't have it installed on their machine?
You have to embed the font using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), and that's the limit of my knowledge on the subject :o , but there is more here.
