Morning people

Recently had a new conservatory installed and not happy about a few things here and there that need tidying up but builder today was asking for payment as he thought the job was finished/would be completed today.

However the laminate floor we have/had in our conservatory has got water damaged due to him taking 3 months to complete the project - initally he told us 3 days !!!!. He had put down tarpaulin, boards and plastic sheeting but obviuosly this wasn't enough and the laminate floor has got damp/wet and bowed badly and needs replacing.

The laminate goes through into our kitchen and we can't replace just the conservatory part as when we bought it 3 years ago it was being discontinued by Focus and thus is no longer available meaning we need to replace the lot (about 20 square metres in total).

My missus told him today we weren't happy about it and wanted some money to be taken off the outstanding balance (we owe around £1200 payable on completion) and he just started shouting, moaning etc and picked up the stuff he was meant to finish off and put it in his truck saying he would see us in court. We complained about something else a few weeks back in relation to the roof and he did the same thing, taking the parts with him and sulking like a child saying he wasn't prepared to pay out of his own pocket (even tho it was different from the cad drawings he gave us originally). We did compromise on this later and he came back to finish off the work but now this problem.

We have no issue with paying the balance when the work is complete (it's about 90% done at present) but where do we stand in relation to the damage as he has said he's not going to do anything about it yet this is down to him taking too long or not protecting the area in question properly.

Can anyone offer some advice as this whole project has turned into a nightmare and wonder where we stand legally etc.

Cheers

WJUK

Spoke to TS and have been advised to write him a letter and send via recorded.

Since then he has sent a demand for payment although the conservatory itself isn't complete and has parts missing.

He has also included a extra invoice for "additional work" (3 items) that were never mentioned as chargable before or even agreed to be done - I consider onr of them (at least) to be part of the original quote as it couldn't be done without this additonal charge (and one was a gesture of goodwill for a project overrunning by 2+ months) which was just done and said there you are.

Will be back on to TS I think :(

Rogue Builders :( - anywhere else I can report them to?
