I picked up pak choi at the supermarket yesterday for 10p - but I have never used it before (you don't get it for sale in this area all that often...)
Any suggestions?

I'd either use a griddle pan or a wok and stir fry it. Not very OS but I'd drizzle balsalmic vinegar onto them while in the pan.1 John 4: 7 & 80

I have only used it in stir fry, just slice it thinly and add it near the end of cooking (it cooks quickly). Its very nice!!!!0

stir fry with some chilli, garlic and ginger and the drizzle some soy sauce or oyster sauce over just before serving. yummy!0

You can also steam it rather than stir frying - not for too long as it gets all soggy. I have steamed it with a sprinkling of soy sauce and a little grating of fresh ginger as a side veg dish.0

going for something even simpler, and how my aussie OH's family have it, they just whack it in the microwave with a spoon of water for a couple of minutes to lightly steam it. It's nice just crisp, tastes very fresh, the perfect side dish to meat lasagne too oddly enoughSoftstuff- Officially better than 0070

I know a microwave is hardly OS, but it sure as heck beats any steamer I had. All you do is pop the veg in a microwavable bowl with a spoon or two of water, loosely put on the lid, and go. The veg lose none of their flavour and it's so fast.Sazbo wrote:What a great idea, Softstuff, I must try it!
heh, though really my OH's dad should be thanked for this, since he's the one who showed me the waySoftstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Some of these ideas sound splendid - was planning a sweet and sour stir fry this week - do you think it would be okay with that?0
