Work took my medical cercificate, so I will ask for a copy back if possible.

I'll write a letter tomorrow and give them a call to explain the situation and try to make a token payment to show goodwill.

The thing is once i'm paid my salary i'm fine, I only got caught out due to not receiving sick pay (other than statutory) during my illness in February.

    Thanks for the advice.

Paying a week late is still missing an installment: some councils revoke your right to pay by installments if you do this just once. Have you not had warning letters about your previous missed payments? Did you not contact the council while you were off sick to ask for more time to pay?

This is correct and therefore your council tax for the year becomes payable immediately.
They must have sent you reminders before the summons.

You will be liable for the council tax for the year until you actually move out, if you move out before 31st March you will be entitled to a rebate.

Speak to the council now as once there is a liability order made against you they may not speak to you.

    Hi,

Thanks to everyone who posted in this thread.

I wrote to the council a couple of weeks ago now. They sent me a letter stating that if i paid the £90 (i sent them a cheque for £8 with the letter) by 31st March they will drop the other fees.

I paid up and its all sorted. I received my April tax bill and they letting me continue paying by instalments.

Disaster averted and hopefully the same mistakes will not be made in the future.
