Problem with new memory in old laptop

    Well...

    It looks like it is damaged :mad:

    The slot one i was referring to is actually slot 2, because the existing memory was in the slot and the other one was empty i assumed it was slot 1!

    So, with any of the meory in slot 2, all is good. Stick another stick in slot one and i was getting read/write errors form the bios on start up.

    I know the memory is good, so it's the slot or the connections on board to the slot.

    Not sure if this can be fixed?

    Try an eraser rubbed over the slot contacts, then blow it out with a can of compressed air.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    - easy done even the makers often get the slots the wrong way round in their MOBO book of words

    - slots are in fact sides slot zero is the first two ( 1&2) sides and slot one similarly two sides (3&4) depending on the chip density

    - your play.com URL doesn't clarify if it's a 16 chip 64Mx8 module

    - if the two bars you have are different, ie one single and the other double sided they won't be happy in the same bed together
