Problem with new memory in old laptop
Comments
-
Well...
It looks like it is damaged
The slot one i was referring to is actually slot 2, because the existing memory was in the slot and the other one was empty i assumed it was slot 1!
So, with any of the meory in slot 2, all is good. Stick another stick in slot one and i was getting read/write errors form the bios on start up.
I know the memory is good, so it's the slot or the connections on board to the slot.
Not sure if this can be fixed?0 -
Try an eraser rubbed over the slot contacts, then blow it out with a can of compressed air.No free lunch, and no free laptop

- easy done even the makers often get the slots the wrong way round in their MOBO book of words
- slots are in fact sides slot zero is the first two ( 1&2) sides and slot one similarly two sides (3&4) depending on the chip density
- your play.com URL doesn't clarify if it's a 16 chip 64Mx8 module
- if the two bars you have are different, ie one single and the other double sided they won't be happy in the same bed togetherDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem.
