Short assured tenancy (Scotland)

Hi i hope someone can help with this situation,
Me and my flat mate have a 6 month short assured tenancy in glasgow which ran out this week. We were served our notice to quit last month but due to certain circumstance involving my flat mate being attacked and going in for operations we never responded to it. Our contract is now up and the letting company phoned us and said we would now have to stay another 2 months is there anyway around this as i leave the country next month and would ideally like to stop paying rent.

  • I don't really agree with the way this has been handled and honestly think that although your fm has been in hospital it would only have taken a phone call to the agents to advise them of the situation and they may have extended by just one month

however that aside, they need to give you two months notice for the notice to quit at the end of the tenancy so if they have only given a month i would call shelter for some advise,

    taken from shelter's website:

As well as giving you a notice to quit, your landlord must also give you two months' written notice telling you that they want the property back. This is called a section 33 notice. If your landlord wants you to move out on the day your tenancy expires, they will need to give you a section 33 notice at least two months before that date.
