Pass through numbers and BT connection Charges

I have been making many landline calls through 0844 205050 which charges .5ppm. My BT bill shows a very different cost per call. Be careful with pass through numbers because in broad terms BT charges 9.3p connection charge to all numbers other than free calls. It would therefore have been cheaper for me to have called via say 1899 which is deemed to be a free call because it goes through an 0800 number. In order to avoid this problem in future I have just signed up for the free calls any time package.

Don't use 1899's 0800 number just dial 1899 and you will pay a flat 5p for each 01/02/03 call however long it is. Dial using their 0800 number and you pay per minute.0 -

BT have always raised a connection charge for non inclusive calls.;)
It would have been cheaper for 01/02/03 calls if you had used the 1899 indirect access number not their Freephone, but as you have signed up for the BT 24/7 call package their is no longer any need to do this.
I assume you are aware the 24/7 package does not include calls to 0844 numbers.0 -
I assume you are aware the 24/7 package does not include calls to 0844 numbers.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
