british gas made a lot of noise about recent price cuts but forgot to tell us that this cut was not applied to their essentials tariff, thats the cheaper price they give to people on low income and benefits.
they have in effect penalised the least well off of their customers, typically those with long term health problems, ..... and kept very, very queit about the fact.
still, the share holders must be releived that their premiums are protected, or perhaps they have been kept in the dark like the rest of us.
wondering if the other companies will a little more open about what their price cuts actually mean

The essentials price is linked to their cheapest tariff - Websaver 6.
As the price of websaver 6 didn't change, nor did essentials.
However, it remains cheaper than the standard tariff, even after the price drop.
There's a few articles on here about the internet tariffs not getting the full/any reduction.0 -
The Essentials rates are already cheaper, as are Online and social tariffs with all the suppliers, so they won't change for any of the companies as it's already cheaper to begin with.0

Are you really that outraged you had to start 2 threads on pretty much the same subject?
Can you clarify how anybody has been penalised? Some people (those on standard and older tariffs) have had their prices put down a little, those on the cheapest tariffs havent, but they are still on the cheapest tariffs.
Who has been penalised?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I dont think its a con can you explain why you think it is, thats to the OP0

How can you say its a con when you already benefit from the cheapest gas and ele on the market? You are not being penalised you are being given help and having your bills subsided by BG. You just cant give some people enough. I don't get any reduction in my fuel costs so you are should count yourself lucky that you do. I'm sure BG are under some obligation to help people who can't meet their costs but I honestly think they go over and above and are given no credit for doing so.:AWill be debt free by 2012:A0
