"BT"? scam

My mum had a phone call from "BT" the other week... they said they would reduce her line rental if she guaranteed to stay with them for 12 months...
My mum, wise as she is, said she wouldn't give them any details on the phone. The woman on the phone said that was fine, she would put it all in writing.
So my mum went and forgot about it, and we've just realised nothing's turned up...
So be careful, I'm not sure if this is genuinely BT or not! Either way it doesn't look like you'll be getting any offers from them!

Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard

As far as I know BT's offers usually center around call packages or broadband, not line rental, since they pretty much have the monopoly on it.
[Although, I believe O2 are releasing a landline package this year that includes line-rental and any time calls that is cheaper than the BT equivalent]
Sounds like a scam.0 -

Best way to find out if these kind of calls are legitimate is to ask the person their name and what department they work in, then phone them back using the listed number for the company and ask to be put through to them.0

BT do have an offer like this, a letter will arrive eventually. I'm on it, can't remember what it is called but you get free weekend calls if you sign up for 12 months.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -

Basically you get the "Free evening and weekend calls" package for the same price as the basic package.
I'm on that package but I pay the going rate as I'm going to be moving soon.0 -
Why don't you call BT directly on their number on the bill?
Retentions would be the best bet I'm guessing.0 -
Probably was BT, though alot of rival companies do claim to be BT, this does not sound like much of a scam. The reason you didnt get a letter is probably because the person on the phone would not get any commission for that and therefore wont bother wasting their time.
This may sound like poor business practice, but thats telesales for you.0
