    And I agree, about time.

I am a father of a 2yr old boy so not biased in anyway shape or form. I believe it is an unnecessary waste of tax payers cash.

As is the very silly £190 healthy eating grant, as is the £500 surestart maternity grant.

These will hopefully soon be scrapped too. Nice to have I suppose but compeltely unnecessary.

    Completely agree!

The healthy eating grant is pathetic and not used as it's meant to be.

The £500 sure start grant is a joke!If you are going to give anything give a much lower amount (if you can't afford things then you should not be buying new or items over a certain price I'm afraid.Live within your means!) and not given out for every child you choose to push out!

No offence to anyone pregnant, but with any luck it will be the next waste to go!

I don't disagree but I am 22 weeks pregnant so just asking the question.

I can see why they've done this. It wasn't essential and the country is in debt so it should be one of the first things to go in my opinion.

It would be better if both of those were given in voucher form. I agree with you - the £500 shouldn't be given out for each child. Of course, if you have a 7 year old and then fall pregnant again, maybe. But not if you have a 1 year old.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Poor interest accounts and with child in sole control made the CTF one we chose not to invest in.

So mine have £250 and £500 (low income that year) in theirs - wonder what it'll be worth when they're 18? Always thought it was pointless.

And always thought the HIP grant was ridiculous - really hope they stop that one. Those who need the help the surestart grant gives should have to attend budgetting classes to earn it. I used to run a baby shop in a poorer area of town and the amount of mums using their grant to buy Bugaboos and Quinny's was scary.

Im outraged this is an absolutely disgusting disgusting decision. Not only will they be increasing taxes to cover the deficit but also not allowing children, to get money they should be entitled to.

The people backing the decision are the very same at the front of the political debates being told ''its about you'', and not wonder why the pay huge taxes, lack of education, lack of security and not really receiving nothing back but still smiling.
Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"

I agree with it; but I'm not one of those people. People managed before - why not now? And why should taxpayers give your children savings? You want to give your children savings, put your child benefit into a savings account for them.

To be honest, I think you have missed the point. There is no money to pay for this. It wasn't an "essential" so it is prime to be scrapped.

Oh, and I have a 3 month old daughter before you ask. But she is our responsibility, not the taxpayers.

I would much rather have the state support (much) lower tuition fees for when (hopefully) she attends University.

I'd agree with vouchers for the Sure Start Grant but that would exclude secondhand buying which in reality is what you should do if you can't afford new! There is an abundance of ways to get something used or get cheaper items.

I wouldn't agree with vouchers for the Health in Pregnancy Grant as it's the most ridiculous grant to ever exsist!I remember threads on Netmums asking people what they were going to do with theirs and replies included;buy new carpets, decorate the house/flat,have a weekend away with the oh,get myself some new clothes, new toys for the kids, treat myself and save towards a holiday!!!

It's the parents job to save for their children not the state to hand out money to put in an account.

Children should be entitled to something for the future FROM THEIR PARENTS
