refused new Coventry First account??

Hi, I start a new job on the 28th of august and wanted a new account with a good interest rate for my salary to go in, I applied for Coventry First and they said I did'nt meet certain criteria and my application has not been successful 
i was just wondering why this is and if I wrote to them explaining about my new job etc they would reconcider?
