Biasi boiler problem

Daughter recently moved house, it has a Biasi combi boiler, which is 8yrs old. It was OK, but 2 days ago suddenly died. There is no pilot light to relight, so we got an engineer out who " shook his head and pursed his lips" , and said the control panel was broken and it was no use replacing it unless the main board was replaced because the same thing would happen. It will cost £400 + VAT. A new boiler would cost £1500 +VAT. Now she really is skint and we would have to loan her the money, so obviously we are querying the price, getting another quote. Does anyone know anything about these boilers? It's not a make I'm familiar with. The enginner said it was a crappy, cheap make, used by house bulders and usually purchased in bulk from B&Q.

You can get a full central heating system fitted in most areas for not much more than £1500

My friend just had his combi replaced with a bosch condensing boiler and it cost him £900 including fitting.
