Paypal chargeback

I am not sure if this is the right place to post but I am in desperate need of help!
I bought a travel system for our new baby about a week ago. The seller is on ebay but I wanted a different package than the one offered so I was told to just pay the money into the persons paypal account and they would send it to me. Travel system arrived a day later. All looked good but the carrycot attachment worth about £150 was broken. I emailed the seller and they said it was fine when they sent it out. But it clearly wasn't! They told me that if i sent them money for postage they would send DHL so collect it and they would then send me a new one. I didn't agree with that but had no other option so I paid them. They have received the item and it has been signed for but they will not reply to any of my emails re the new one. What do I do? I have paid through paypal and paypal has taken the funds from my tesco credit card.
I am so stressed about this I haven't slept well in days. I am disgusted that they would do this especially to a stressed pregnant woman! Am I covered at all, being that the transaction was not through ebay? I have the persons address, but if I send my husband there it will get ugly.
I called tesco credit card and they said they can put a chargeback on it under the reason of faulty goods.I am giving it 12 more hours and then I will start action. Do I tell them to do the chargeback for the full £370 or just the value of the part I returned? All I want is the new carrycot or the money refunded so I can buy a new one. I have correspondance of ours via ebay and via email and I have the dhl slip that they gave me when it was collected.
Thanks in advance.

I'd say if all the parts were sold as a package you should be able to do a chargeback for the full amount. If you made an individual payment for each part then you'd only be able to claim back the broken part. Good luck with it though.

Thanks very much for your speedy reply! yes it was all sold as a package. I am so sad that they have gone back on their word it's very frustrating. Im hoping that the fact that it was not done via ebay doesn't come against me!

Was the payment made to a company or to a private seller?

It was a business seller on ebay, so I guess a private seller.

To be honest I'm not sure how a chargeback works with a private seller, hopefully someone else does.

But if it was only last week I'd leave it a bit longer before you go ahead with the chargeback request. The seller might be away/computer's broken/etc so give them a bit more time to get in touch with you.

I informed Tesco credit card that it was a personal seller and they said that was fine. The thing is they always replied straight away before when I was enquiring about items and now all of a sudden they fall off the face of the planet for 2 days? they are still selling stuff on ebay so obviously they are looking at their email etc.

Just an update to say that I just got an email from them saying they shipped it today so hopefully I will have it tomorrow. I feel a bit better now! Just praying that this one is in working order. Shall I check the goods when they arrive before I sign for them? What I do if this one is faulty too?
also should it have been me paying the postage charge to return it? Should the seller refund me that?

If you had gone through paypal you would have had to return the item tracked & paid, some sellers would have refunded yout postage. How is he a private seller if he sells more than 1 type of pram at a time? Sounds like a dodgy business seller. If a seller offers you the opportunity of buying direct, it's always best to turn it down, it's only ever in the sellers interest, no listing or fvf to pay, as a buyer you put yourself in a really dodgy position. Hopefully you will get a perfect carrycot tomorrow.
