Herbal Inn won't refund my £260. i had NO treatment

Options
Hi,

On Wednesday 27th January, I went to Herbal Inn to discuss my difficulty to get pregnant. I saw a consultant and was pushed to take a course of 7 sessions of acupuncture. I said that I was going on holidays the following week, and I’d rather start a treatment when I come back. I was “pushed” into starting asap for the best result and I booked 2 sessions before going on holidays. I paid for 6 sessions straight away.
The following day I cancelled my sessions before holidays and said I’d see that when I come back.

I am no longer trying for a baby therefore want my £260 refunded! But I received a letter from them saying that they will not refund it, however, I can have a voucher for £260.

Clearly that can’t be right. At NO POINT I was made aware that this was not refundable, and they insisted to make me pay straight away after the consultation when I wanted to wait for my return from holidays!

Any advice?

    You may not like this...
but you bought and paid for a service. The provider offered the service and you decided not to proceed.

You have changed your mind, for whatever reason. The service provider does not have to give a refund unless that is what you agreed beforehand. I.e. is it in the T&Cs?

It is probably reasonable to assume that any money paid for anything is not refundable if you change your mind... unless stated otherwise.

    I agree

The law states that you have no rights to anything if you change your mind so its reasonable to assume that this is the case for anything unless otherwise stated, not the other way round, that IMHO would be naive.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

On a side not... is acupuncture a common way to get pregnant?

Next time, rather than herbal inn i would recommend your doctor!

There was an article in the paper today saying that a meta-analysis has failed to show any evidence of effectiveness of acupuncture in increasing fertility.

I suppose there's a lot of jokes to be made about 'little pricks' though :rotfl:

Lol i love stuff like that, silly things affecting other things completely unrelated.

I'd love to do one that compared which out of cadbury, galaxy and yorkie increases fertility the most. Something ridiculous like that. To me, theres far more important things to be spending money on these days, like cancer research. Not whether some needles can increase your chances of a baby by 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%

You need a different type of pr!ck to make you pregnant my dear!!

Maybe look for some magic beans to help you get pregnant.

There is a rumour about the seat behind the bike shed at my old school, there were a few munters who got knocked up after sitting on that.

Seriously, there a many many people out to scam you because of your blind desperation to obtain something. In you case, a little person, but the same applies for loans and such like...

I can't see what you are complaining about, you asked, you paid....done.
Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling

Anyway, there's a very slim chance you could claim your money back based on the fact that this service was sold to you claiming that it'd help you get pregnant, but the scientific evidence doesn't back that up.

I say very slim because CAM practitioners (also known as snake oil salesmen and quacks) are very good at selling products without making specific claims, in order to avoid situations like this.

All depends what was said to you, and more importantly, what you have in writing.

I think making jokes about and belittling someone who has clearly tried to become pregnant and has now given up is beyond a cheap shot.

Try and remember a great deal of emotion goes into this sort of thing. The OP has asked about getting a refund, not a debate on what steps she should / could have taken to become pregnant.

There was an article on the news yesterday about herbal medicines on pregnancy, basicly they don't work.

I'am afraid your at a loss, You've got no rights. Take it as a life lesson, do they offer other services that you could use?

Crucial point here is whether there were any terms and conditions which applied.
