Home Buyer Survey

I've just bought my first flat. I had a home buyer survey done (£135) it picked up some damp - and some guttering stuff but that's it.

Now I've been informed by teh other freeholders that there is a £30,000 renovation project just about to start. Flat roof needs doing, rendering, guttering.

Does anyone know if a homebuyer survey should have picked this type of cost burden up for me before I bought?

  • no, it wont pick up things that haven't been done yet. It's up to you to find out.
    Always talk to neighbours when buying leasehold/flats!

    I'd have thought given they are freeholders that the seller should have declared any prospective work that was due to happen(and I don't believe they didn't know about this). Doesn't one of the forms you fill out for conveyancing say about if you know of any work that is scheduled to be done etc./neighbour disputes etc?
