hide beetles aka Dermestes maculatus

My neighbour 2 doors along, has hide beetles. she is disabled, and cant go out to the shops much. Her house is clean.

What i wanted to know is, when i go to the shop to get some stuff for her, what should i buy to kill these? Dermestes maculatus is the "professional name" for them.

she just about had a heart attack when she seen this thing fly past her. - house is warm but that shouldnt have much affect.

what she needs is a spray - i have told her she shoudl get enviromental health in as they will use a special spray but she is houseproud and wont allow, and i quote "these people who deal with messy houses on the telly" to come in to her home lol so if you got any ideas, would be handy.

thanks

They feed on animal based protein and could indicate the presence of a dead rodent or dead bird in the property somewhere. Or ... they might simply be feeding on a bit of cheese behind the fridge.

However, I would be keen to find out if there's a dead mouse in the house and deal with that!

Tell her a different department deals with messy houses and the best person is the local pest control officer who deals with everything from ants to wasps! :)

Many insecticides that used to be available are now banned (!) to the public. The local pest control officer has a much wider range of bug control chemicals.

If you must try self treatment (and let's face it, you don't know where to start) then look for something that claims to deal with carpet beetles.

I personally wouldnt know where to start - even although her house is not that big. She told me though that its worse in summer - so i think this could be due to the heat.

As far as i know, there is no mice or rats in there, but we never know what is between teh wall cavities.
