Is there a legal waiting time before getting a ticket?

Hi all, new to this site, so please excuse any mistakes.
This morning I got a parking ticket 8 minutes after leaving my car to pop into a shop!! I was only gone for 10mins! Is there not a 15min slot or something before they can stick a ticket on your car? Should I pay the £50? Please help.

I guess you were parking somewhere where you should not. Unfortunately, unless there are time plates around, then the parking attendants tend to pounce as soon as they see a vehicle illegally parked. If the parking requires change for a machine and you have popped to get change, sometimes they wait but it is rare. Not a lot you can do but revisit the site, take picutres of any time plates and if there are some, then challenge it. Also was it a private company or local authority? If it is a private company then there are threads on this site as to the legality of them.Food and Smellies Shop target £50 pw - managed average of £49 per week in 2013 down to £38.90 per week in 20160

Hi all, new to this site, so please excuse any mistakes.
New to this planet as well by the sound of it!
Nah, just leave your car wherever you like while you pop into the shops.
Maybe get a haircut and have a sauna too while you are at it.0 -

That's not exactly helpful is it?
OP Please answer Sarahs request as to who actually issued the ticket and we may be able to help you.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Having has a quick look at his/her recent postings -- it's about par with them all - no help what so ever, seems to like 'slagging' ppl off, at least didn't use smart jumbled up swear words this timepeter_the_piper wrote: »That's not exactly helpful is it?

it was NCP who issued the ticket. The parking space i parked in always used to be a pick up/drop off parking bay, waiting time 20mins...guess they must have changed this!! Thank you for your replys, barring enfieldian!!0

I believe NCP do contract work for some councils. Have another look at the ticket and see if there is any mention of a council. If not then it is the usual NCP unenforceable rubbish which you can safely ignore.
See the NCP scam letter chain here - http://www.violetmount.com/ncpscam.jpg0 -
Is this an NCP ticket on behalf of the council, or was it a private car park?
What is the ticket called? A Penalty Charge Notice, or a Parking Charge Notice, or whatever?
OP, it would help if you could give us as much information as you have, so that we can help you properly.0 -
The ticket is from NCP it states..Parking Contravention Charge Notice.. No mention of a council on it at all. They want £50 within 14 days or it goes up to £100. The tickets violation is for..."parked in a pay and display car park without clearly displaying a valid pay and display ticket". Should I ignore it? Thanks.0

Then that is one to ignore.
As for times generally, IIRC strictly there is no requirement to wait but many councils do set an advisory observation time in policy. Which can vary from council to council, so you would need to look-up/ask for the current policy to see what applies in your area.0
