PPI: Do You Pay It Whilst Claiming On It?

I've been unemployed for 18months and my PPI have been paying for that time. But I wanted to check that it's correct that I'm still paying the PPI payment because when I use PPI for a loan many years ago, I didn't make payments when they were paying my loan repayments. If it makes any difference, I was unable to work then rather than out of work, like now.
