Car Insurance advice desperately needed

I will try to explain the main points (as I have more than one complaint about esure!) and hopefully someone may be able to offer some advice! I thank you in advance for any help or advice given!

I am a named driver on my girlfriends insurance policy (esure). Last September/October I was sitting static in a queue of traffic in a supermarket car park, literally one car behind, one car in front, and impossible for me to drive anywhere. A car then started to reverse out of a space from the opposite side of the road (to my rear driver side). This car did not see me and smashed into me. I phoned and reported the accident immediately, as well as give details of a witness. All seemed fine.

Approx a week later my partner received a letter from the other drivers insurance company claiming responsibility and looking for me to phone them (groupama) to arrange to get the car fixed. So at this point I was unsure who groupama were and phoned esure. They advised that I paid for fully comp insurance and was entitled to use the 'premium' service that esure provide (their words not mine!) and did not have to deal direct with groupama.

So the car went to get fixed (via esure) and we thought that was that. Until... the renewal for my girlfriends insurance came in! She phoned me in tears as the quote was almost 4 times what she had been paying! So long story short, after many phone calls to esure they claim this is due to having a claim against her. Obviously she questioned the 'against' her part and the answer given was basically they have not managed to clear the case up yet?

But they then explained that the problem was groupama would not answer the phone to them! What? 6 months later and all we get is groupama are not answering their phone?

The insurance is now due for renewal. My girlfriend is a single mother living on her own and needs the car to take her child to nursery each day (5 miles away). She, nor I, have £1500 to keep the insurance running until esure finally sort this out.

So where does she stand? We have a letter from the groupama claiming responsibility so why can't esure sort it out? At the moment she seems to have no option but not renew her policy, wait for esure to sort this out and be without a car until then?

I am going to phone esure again today so advice as to what I should be asking etc on the phone would be great. However, any advice at all would also be greatly appreciated!

But you can pay it up monthly so it wont cost her £1500 initially. Then hopefully once its resolved she can get her quote amended. Although there might be some increase as theres still an accident on the account.

well yes but they also asked for an extra 280 to pay by instalments when asked about this. She is a single mother living on her own with a 3 yr old. where is she supposed to find this money? Instalments or not?

The rest of the story goes that the cars petrol cap lock was completely missing on return from garage when fixed. The boot did not shut... at all!!! So we phoned esure yet again and they were going to sort it. They did not even phone us back! I had to pay out my own pocket for these errors to be fixed. I really do not want to give esure another penny if I can help it, but she can't get insured elsewhere due to this claim. so can I only cancel and be carless?
